Modern Foreign Languages
The Modern Foreign Languages department at Haverstock School teaches two languages: French and Spanish, from year seven through to A level. We also teach Japanese to 6th Form. We follow the National Curriculum and use interactive whiteboards in every classroom. We also have excellent ICT facilities (with 40 computers for pupil use). We believe that the best language learning is interactive, and so encourage all pupils to participate in lessons as much as possible. We also aim to teach about the culture of French and Spanish speaking countries.
We encourage every single pupil to continue studying a language at Key Stage Four, as we believe languages are for everyone, and will greatly enhance your academic and career opportunities.
We believe that the most effective way to consolidate classroom learning of a language is through practice and use of authentic materials. To this end, we have a French and Spanish Language Assistant, which gives pupils the opportunity to apply what they have learnt on a one to one basis. We also organise trips abroad.
We also run many extra-curricular activities: AS Level French, French, Spanish and Japanese GCSE support and Japanese for beginners and AS support. We also run Arsenal Double Club.
