The work of the Department is directed at all students in the form of a carefully planned and balanced range of learning experiences. Continuous assessment, both formative and summative, occurs throughout the Key Stages and culminates in a comprehensive student profile.
The Department offers an extensive extra-curricular activities programme in addition to our everyday timetable, which is viewed as an extension to the curriculum and as such, is available to all students who express an interest, irrespective of their ability.
The Physical Education programme has been designed as a result of joint efforts and agreed criteria within the Department. All year programmes are progressive and directly interlinked to each other to ensure the necessary continuity. In view of the need and desire to establish a 5 to 16 curriculum, positive links have been made with the primary feeder schools to share experiences and develop greater levels of understanding. All Departmental staff keep an accurate record of teaching groups, attendance and assessment information. Brief comments are also made concerning teaching experiences and general progress of each block of work, which facilitates more meaningful discussion in terms of curriculum review and evaluation. The Department is therefore engaged in a carefully planned programme of physical education, the development of which is an ongoing process interlinked with student assessment and evaluation. Thus, the Department is constantly striving towards new targets and more efficient performance.
