Getting creative at the Roundhouse
Our school is proud to work with Camden’s world–class arts venue, the Roundhouse, on a wide range of projects. One of our most popular is the Roundhouse Band Project.
Every term, 15 students from Year 7 and Year 8 attend taster sessions where they get the chance to try out different instruments, performance and songwriting. Over the following weeks, they work together to create and perform their own music at an end–of–term concert.
It's a brilliant chance to flex their musical muscles and build up confidence. And no previous musical experience is necessary – just a willingness to turn up and give it a go.
At the end of last term, the band wowed an audience of family, friends and fans with highlights including: Year 8’s Arlind playing a fantastic piano solo on Mad World, Year 7’s Jack playing his own solo composed for electric guitar, and Year 8’s Nicholas playing bass guitar as well as MC’ing the event.
Year 7’s Neveah and Year 8’s Rosanna even duetted on a brilliant Christmas song they’d written themselves. Neveah says, 'I've always loved singing outside of school, but doing the band project has helped me discover new stages in my voice. Doing the final performance was really good for my confidence, and will help me in lessons.’
Nicholas adds, ‘I’d always wanted to play the bass, and loved playing in a band. Learning to work as a team has helped with my sports too.’
Places are available now for the next Roundhouse Band Project, which starts on 24 January.
And we have lots more activities on offer from the Roundhouse – from Circus Skills in PE lessons, to our extra–curricular Freerunning Club. Please speak to Ms Fowler or Mr Histed if you’d like to find out more about any of these courses or about getting help with fees.
