How Did You Spend Your Summer?
For 42 of our Haverstock Career Network students, summer 2018 was one they'll always remember: a fantastic opportunity to join one of the city’s leading businesses and organisations in a paid internship.
Our students worked alongside experts in health care, finance, technology, advertising and media, law, engineering and construction, market research, hospitality, consultancy, recruitment and property. They undertook the widest range of tasks, made great contacts and gained new skills and confidence.
Student Farida explains, 'These internships allow us to understand and feel prepared for the world of work. It’s a great experience that helps us to develop our skills and discover what we love as well as what we may want to do in the future.' Rez adds, 'You gain transferable skills that you might not get in school. They’re amazing opportunities to step out of your comfort zone and become more confident.'
Read what our students thought of their experience below,
'Every day was different and interesting! The thing that I liked was that I had control over how and when I went about completing my set projects. This independence made me more aware of how to plan and be organised with my time.' – Rez
'There was no typical day for me. There would be some when I would barely be at my desk as I would be in meetings or at training sessions, then other days I’d be at my desk more, continuing my on-going project on Microsoft Power BI. My highlight was networking with a range of people. It helped me understand the challenges they have faced as well as gaining valuable career advice. I really enjoyed hosting our presentation event too – it boosted my confidence a lot!' – Tanim
'Before I started my internship I was very shy and unable to speak to new people. My internship allowed me to develop these skills and I now feel confident starting conversations with new people.' – Farida
