All students have a right to free education. However, the school may ask for contributions to be made towards the cost of school journeys or outings. If there are insufficient funds then the journey might be cancelled. Instrumental music tuition is extra-curricular and although heavily subsidised, there is a charge on a sliding scale. This is based on a family’s needs, for example, if the student is registered for free school meals.
Contributions are also asked for, in the event of damage to school property or the loss of equipment or books. In such cases we would hope that parents/carers find some way to ensure that the student concerned makes the contribution.
