Train to Teach at Haverstock
Haverstock School is delighted to launch our new School Centred Initial Teacher Training (Haverstock SCITT), in partnership with Teach First.
If you're interested in a career in teaching, we can help.
Working in our dynamic and diverse school, you'll be supported all the way. You'll make a real difference to your local community from day 1, as you work towards your PGCE and Qualified Teacher Status in just 1 year.
Our 1-year, research-led training will give you plenty of hands-on experience, and support you to put learning into practice, in a 4-day-per-week placement at Haverstock School from mid-September to July.
Every week, you'll have 1 full day of training and development to support your teaching, in a unique programme specially designed by Teach First’s experts. You'll develop subject knowledge and expertise, alongside building a deep understanding of effective teaching methods and techniques to manage your workload and wellbeing.
At the start of the programme in September...
You’ll engage in 2 weeks of intensive training on core areas of teaching – such as behaviour management and lesson planning. This will be followed by 2 more separate weeks of intensive training later in the year.
Our most expert teachers – including your own skilled mentor – will be with you every step of the way, as you spend time observing their lessons, learning how to teach and plan lessons, and practising your own teaching.
The programme also includes 6 weeks in other educational settings – including an opportunity to choose short placements in our H3 Federation schools, Heath School and Harmood School. Your placements will include the chance to work with a range of ages, for example spending time in a nursery, a primary school, a secondary school or in post-16 depending on your specialism.
Our programme will ensure you have a broad experience of teaching in different schools, preparing you for a successful career as a teacher.
