As our Year 9 students approach an important milestone in their education, we have been working hard to support them in making informed decisions about their GCSE Options. Choosing the right subjects is a crucial step in shaping their future education and career pathways, and we want to ensure they feel confident in their choices.

Support For Your Child

Over the past few weeks, students have received comprehensive guidance to help them navigate the options process, including:

  • Guided Choices Assemblies – Key staff have provided information on available subjects and how to make the best choices.
  • Tutorial Sessions – Students have explored their strengths, interests, and aspirations to help them make informed decisions.
  • Subject Information – Teachers have given insights into what each subject involves, including potential career and further study pathways.
  • Subject Taster Sessions – Students have been offered a glimpse into what studying a particular subject at GCSE will be like, helping students make informed decisions.
  • Deloitte workshop – All students took part in a Responsible Business workshop where they learnt about the marketplace and the world of finance
  • Google Classroom – A space where important notices, assembly slides and careers information is posted
  • Parent’s Evening -  A key opportunity to discuss progress and ask questions about GCSE courses.

Next Steps in the Options Process

  • Students must submit their initial choices via the Google Form by Thursday 27 March
  • 1-1 Guided Choices interviews will take place after the upcoming holiday period, where a member of staff will review their selections to ensure they align with their abilities and goals
  • Letters home confirming GCSE option choices.

How You Can Support Your Child

  • Discuss their interests: encourage them to think about what they enjoy and where their strengths lie.
  • Consider future pathways: talk about possible career interests or post-16 options and how their GCSE choices may support them.
  • Encourage research: websites such as BBC Bitesize, National Careers Service, and subject exam boards can provide useful insights into different courses.

If you have any questions or need further guidance, please don't hesitate to contact the school. Thank you for your continued support in helping your child make the best decisions for their future.
